A lighthearted exchange during Thursday’s Senate plenary drew laughter after Senate President Godswill Akpabio referenced the controversial viral video that allegedly showed Senator Adams Oshiomhole massaging a woman’s feet aboard a private jet.
The remark came as lawmakers debated an unrelated matter, with Akpabio recalling how the upper chamber had previously dismissed a petition linked to the footage after it was alleged to have been generated using artificial intelligence (AI).
Speaking during the session, Akpabio revealed that the Senate chose not to pursue the petition at the time because there was uncertainty over the authenticity of the video.
According to him, information presented to the leadership of the Senate suggested the footage might have been AI-generated, prompting lawmakers to set the matter aside.
However, he noted that the National Assembly could reconsider the issue if credible evidence proving the video’s authenticity is presented.
“I don’t want to go beyond what we are discussing, but I would have asked about the picture showing our senator massaging a woman’s leg. Senator Oshiomhole, your good friend, Senator Lalong, brought security information indicating that we should ignore the petition because we believed it was AI-generated. But if there is fresh evidence, we can always look into it,” Akpabio said.
Video Sparked Public Debate
The video, which surfaced on social media in February 2026, attracted widespread attention and triggered mixed reactions from Nigerians.

While some questioned Oshiomhole’s conduct, others challenged the authenticity of the footage.
In response to the controversy, the Edo North senator’s media team dismissed the clip as artificial intelligence-generated content, insisting it did not depict a real event.
Although the matter was never formally investigated by the Senate, Akpabio’s latest remarks suggest the issue could be reopened should verifiable evidence emerge.
The exchange added a moment of humour to Thursday’s proceedings while reviving public discussion around one of the most talked-about political videos earlier in the year.
