Nigerian singer Adekunle Gold has disclosed that he took legal action against an X user who falsely claimed his daughter Deja had died.
During an interview on One54 Africa, Gold said he reported the issue to the authorities right after seeing the post.
Gold said he can handle criticism, but he will not accept it when it involves his family.
He said the case went to court, and the person received a two-year prison sentence or could pay a fine instead.
He also mentioned that social media described the situation differently from what really happened, but he stayed focused on handling it legally
“So somebody had put out fake news about my family losing our daughter and I can’t take anything, you can talk about me all day, I’m cool,” he said.
“I signed up for this, not my daughter. So when I saw the news, obviously, I did the right thing… I reported to the authorities.
“They took it to court and the court sentenced him to two years imprisonment or he should pay a fine.
“The whole internet went crazy. I did the right thing. I didn’t even do what other people would do. You know: find the boy, beat him up. I just went through the right channel and he was dealt with.”
