A former North-West National Vice Chairman of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Jafar Ibrahim Sani, has appealed to Northern elders and political leaders to ensure that due process and justice are upheld in the case involving former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai.
Sani made the call in a statement titled “El-Rufai, The North, Our Elders and the Test of Loyalty.”
He urged political stakeholders, particularly within the ADC, to put aside personal and political differences and focus on ensuring fairness in the former governor’s case.
According to Sani, political loyalty is often tested during difficult periods, lamenting that some politicians tend to abandon associates when they no longer benefit from the relationship.
He acknowledged that people may hold different opinions about El-Rufai, but argued that his contribution to Nigeria’s public life cannot simply be ignored.
Sani appealed to Northern elders and political leaders not to allow political disagreements to override the principles of justice, fairness and due process.
He said the appropriate outcome should ultimately be determined by the law and the courts, including the possibility of El-Rufai’s lawful release if the legal process warrants it.
The ADC chieftain’s comments come amid growing political debate over El-Rufai’s situation and the response of Northern political leaders and allies to his legal challenges.
