The Adamawa State Police Command has arrested 57 suspects in a coordinated operation targeting Shilla gangsterism, drug abuse, public nuisance, and possession of dangerous weapons in Jimeta, Girei, and Yola Town.
In a statement issued on 23 June 2026 by Police Public Relations Officer SP Suleiman Yahaya Nguroje, the Command said the operation was carried out under the leadership of Commissioner of Police CP Kabiru Umar Hassan, Divisional Police Officers, supervised by their Area Commanders, raided identified criminal hideouts and black spots across the Jimeta and Yola metropolis.
According to the statement, the suspects were arrested for offences bordering on Shilla-related activities, public nuisance, possession of dangerous weapons, and involvement with prohibited substances.
Police operatives also recovered various dangerous weapons and suspected banned substances from the suspects. The exhibits have been documented and will be tendered as evidence during prosecution.
“The suspects have been charged to court in accordance with the law, while profiling and further investigations continue to determine the extent of their involvement in other criminal activities,” SP Nguroje said.
CP Hassan commended officers for their professionalism and commitment during the operation. He reassured residents that the Command remains resolute in dismantling criminal gangs and restoring lasting peace across the state.
The Command also urged the public to remain vigilant and continue providing credible, timely information to aid crime prevention and detection.
“Shilla” is a local term used in parts of Adamawa State for street gangs often linked to violence, drug abuse, and intimidation of residents.
