Boyfriend, mother accused of aiding young girl to procure illegal abortion, Kebbi Hisbah investigates

The Kebbi State Hisbah Board says it is investigating a case involving a young girl allegedly involved in an illegal abortion with the help of her boyfriend and her mother.

In a statement released by its Media Team on Monday, the Board said it received a report of the alleged abortion and has commenced investigations to establish the facts. It added that appropriate action will be taken in line with Shari’a provisions and Nigerian law.

The Board also disclosed that its vigilante operatives apprehended a young man and a young woman at Eid Ground, Birnin Kebbi, where they were found conversing in a secluded area away from public view.

“All persons involved have been handed over to the Hisbah Board for further investigation, verification of the facts, and for appropriate action to be taken in accordance with religious principles and the laws of the country,” the statement said.

Preliminary findings showed that the girl is from Sokoto State and her parents were not aware that she had travelled with the young man to that location.

The Hisbah Board used the incidents to renew its call to parents and guardians to monitor their children’s upbringing and guide them away from acts that could lead to trouble or moral corruption. It also urged young people to adhere to Islamic teachings and good conduct to build a decent society.

“May Allah guide our community and protect us from falling into immoral behavior,” the Board prayed.

Hisbah in northern states routinely handle cases bordering on public morality, shari’a compliance, and social vices, often in collaboration with vigilante groups and security agencies.
