List of Female Nigerian singers

Nigeria is known worldwide for producing good music.  And the country’s music industry is not solely male-dominated, even though it seems the females in the industry are underrated.

There are a number of female Nigerian singers who are breaking out in the music industry and making a worldwide impact. Here is a list of the female Nigerian singers in no particular order:

1. Tiwa Savage: Born on 5th February 1980, Tiwatope Savage, the award-winning singer has made music in the following genres: soul, afro-pop, hip hop, rap, and R&B. She is currently signed to Universal Music Group. Her net worth has been estimated at $5 million.

2. Niniola: Niniola Apata is known for her feature in Beyonce’s album, “Gift” album. She has her own genre which she calls Afro House.

3. Tems: Temilade Openiyi was born on 11th June 1995 in Lagos to a British father and a Nigerian mother. She started out her music career at 13 years. She is known for recently featuring in Drake’s “Certified Lover Boy” album. The young writer, singer, and record producer is worth about $200,000.

4.  Asa: Bukola Elemide, whose stage name is Asa was born in France to Nigerian parents. She released her debut album “Asa”, which became an instant hit. The “Prisoner” hitmaker makes pop, Indie pop, jazz, and rap music.

5. Seyi Shay: Deborah Oluwaseyi also known as Seyi Shay deals with soul, pop, reggae and afro-pop. She even has a song with Teyana Taylor.

6. Teni: Teniola Apata is a songwriter, stage performer, recording artist & and entertainer signed under Dr. Dolor Entertainment. Award-winning Teni came into the spotlight in 2017 with her hit song “Fagin”. She is the younger sister of Niniola.

7. Yemi Alade: This Afro-pop singer and songwriter first appeared on the music scene in 2009. Yemi Alade is the first Nigerian female artiste to hit 1.62 million subscribers on YouTube. She also has 128 million views on her “Johhny” YouTube channel.

8. Simi: Simisola Kosoko, also known as Simi in music circles is another top Nigerian female who is making waves globally. Her music “Duduke” has over 30 million views on YouTube.
