Basket Mouth Reveals He Became A Comedian After He Got Sacked From Stage For Rapping

Basket Mouth has said that he used to be a rapper but he let go of that career after he was booed on stage at an event at the University of Benin (UNIBEN).

During an interview with Ebuka Obi-Unchendu, he revealed that he saw right from the point where he was rejected by the crowd at UNIBEN that, rapping wasn’t a good career for him at that point.

“Those guys are wicked. They came at us. My guy walked off. I came back, told DJ to stop the music,” he said.

”That was when the loud criticism started. They were hitting me and I was getting back at them, using their bodily features as diss material. It was rowdy at first but the hall became quite. All of a sudden people started laughing. When I was done, some guy walked up to me and said, “man, you get basket mouth o,” and walked away. I told my guys my name would just be that if I were to do comedy. My colleagues advised me to leave the rap thing,” he explained.

He added that his brother who was in the same music group felt bad but never asked him to stop doing music, instead, he pushed him to do more. However, he told himself he had to stop and do comedy.

“I was popular in UNIBEN as the only comedian who was kicking it. When I left, they started seeing me on TV,” he added.

In November 2020, Basket Mouth released an album dubbed ‘Yabasi,’ as a soundtrack for his comedy series, ‘Papa Benji.’

The album featured Duncan Mighty, Phyno, Ladipoe, and others.
