Vigilante kills 27-year-old man over missing company’s phone in Abia
A young man, Izuchukwu Mbakwe has been shot dead by a yet-to-be-identified member of an Abia State Vigilante group.
The 27-year-old employee of De Choice Eatery in Umuahia was alleged to have stolen a phone which belongs to the company.
The Punch reports that the vigilante shot the deceased at close range on his lap on Sunday, March 26, resulting in his death.
It was gathered that Mbakwe, a native of Umuosu Okaiuga Nkwoegwu in Umuahia North Local Government, arrived for his normal duties at work when the Internal Auditor summoned vigilante officials to arrest him.
The auditor claimed that the young man was the prime suspect in the disappearance of a company-owned “Nokia Torch.”
Eyewitnesses said the vigilante men, in a fit of overzealousness stripped Mbakwe and beat him to a coma.
He was consequently shot at close range with a Pump Action Rifle, which injured his Femoral Artery.
The victim was rushed to FMC Umuahia for treatment, where he died just as he was about to be referred to a specialist hospital.
Meanwhile, CorrectNG reported that a 17-year-old boy identified as Noble Uzuchi was arrested in Rivers State for impregnating 10 ladies.
The State Police command nabbed the suspect alongside his 29-year-old accomplice, Chigozie Ogbonna.
Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Grace Iringe-Koko, said the two suspects were allegedly running a baby factory with two other ladies, Favour Bright, 30; and Peace Alikoi, 40.
She said Uzuchi and Ogbonna were arrested following a tipoff. According to Iringe-Koko, the four suspects operated in the Obio/Akpor and Ikwerre local government areas of the state.
The Police PRO said their base of operations was raided, leading to the rescue of the 10 pregnant ladies and arrest of the suspects.
The statement reads; “On Saturday, January 7, 2023, around 4.45 pm, while acting on credible intelligence available to the Rivers State Police Command, C4I Intelligence Unit operatives raided two houses at Igwuruta and Omagwa communities respectively, where victims of child trafficking were being kept. The victims rescued in the operation are 10, most of them pregnant.”
