Afghanistan: 16 students murdered as bomb goes off in madrassa

Why, who would attack a madrassa? “Islamophobes”? No, it was likely the Islamic State, i.e., rivals of the Muslims who controlled this madrassa. In the West, analysts point to attack of this kind in efforts to prove that the attackers aren’t Muslim, with the assumption being that they wouldn’t attack other Muslims. But in reality, they attack them for not being Muslim enough, or for not being the right kind of Muslim.

A madrassa was attacked by a bomb on Wednesday, leaving at least 16 people dead and 24 more injured in the northern Afghan city of Aybak.

Since the Taliban regained control in August of last year, there have been numerous explosions and attacks that targeted civilians, with the local ISIS chapter claiming responsibility for the majority of them.

The majority of the casualties were children, according to a doctor in Aybak, 200 kilometres (130 miles) north of Kabul.

The doctor told AFP, on condition of anonymity, “All of them are kids and regular people.”…
