Nigerian gospel minister Lawrence Oyor has expressed admiration for NDC presidential candidate Peter Obi’s political career, highlighting how the former Anambra State governor has managed to rise to a position of influence without having major controversies pinned on him.
Speaking during a recent church programme, Oyor made the remark while discussing his prospects ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The gospel minister noted that whether Nigerians intend to support Obi at the polls or not, his record and rise in politics should prompt people to ask questions.
“Whether you want to vote for Peter Obi for president or not, it should baffle you that a man has made it to that level of prosperity and capacity, as far as politics, power and influence are concerned, and yet you cannot pin anything on him.
Do you know how strange that is in this country? If there’s anything they could have found, they would have found it by now.” he remarked.
Oyor’s comments have drawn attention to Obi’s public profile, particularly his years in politics and his continued relevance ahead of the 2027 presidential election.
Obi, who served as Anambra State governor from 2006 to 2013, gained nationwide prominence after contesting the 2023 presidential election under the Labour Party platform.
His performance in the election, where he finished third but won several states, helped establish the “Obidient” movement and strengthened his position as a major opposition figure.
Since then, Obi has continued to speak on governance, accountability and the economy, while supporters have maintained calls for him to contest again in 2027.
Oyor’s remarks have therefore added another layer to the ongoing conversation around Obi’s political career and public record as Nigerians look ahead to the next presidential election.
