A young man has shared how his decision to leave Asaba and learn phone repairs helped him build a new source of income after he said internet fraud nearly ruined his life.
The man, identified on X as A Mad Dream, recounted his experience in a post shared on Wednesday, September 23, 2026.
According to him, his struggles began in 2022 when he was in Asaba and involved in what he referred to as “Yahoo”, a Nigerian term commonly used for internet fraud.
How his mother helped him change direction
The man said his mother advised him to leave the situation and find something productive to do with his life.
He recalled, “2022, bro, Yahoo nearly destroy my life for Asaba! So my mama advise me make I come out find something do.”
Following his mother’s advice, he moved to Enugu in 2024, where he began learning phone repairs.
He said the decision eventually opened a new chapter for him as he developed skills in fixing mobile phones.
He now makes at least N70k daily
Sharing an update on his progress, the young man expressed gratitude for how far he had come.
He wrote, “Yami, Alhamdulillah, today I dey make at least ₦70k a day just fixing phones!”
..., which included pictures of him working on mobile phones, had attracted more than 360,000 views, 10,000 likes and hundreds of comments at the time of the report.
Several users praised his mother for encouraging him to change direction, while others celebrated his decision to learn a practical skill.
His story has also highlighted how learning a trade can provide an alternative source of income for young Nigerians seeking to change their circumstances.
