Woman Arraigned In Court Over Alleged Assault During Domestic Dispute

A woman, Victoria Ikpe, was on Thursday arraigned before a Lagos Magistrate Court over allegations of assault during a domestic dispute. The case was filed by the Commissioner of Police.

According to the prosecutor, the alleged incident occurred on 18th April, 2026, at about 3:00 p.m at Ayomale Street, Ijokoro area, Lagos, within the Ikeja Magisterial District.

The prosecution stated that the defendant was accused of assaulting one Blessing Alur during a dispute. The charge sheet indicated that the alleged act resulted in injury to the complainant’s right hand.

The offence was said to be contrary to and punishable under Section 172 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State of Nigeria, 2015. This section covers assault causing harm under Lagos State law.

When the charge was read to her, Victoria Ikpe pleaded not guilty to the allegation.

The prosecutor, SP Philip Ademigbuji, asked the court for a date to commence hearing. He stated that the Police would present evidence and witnesses to prove the allegation beyond reasonable doubt.

The Presiding Magistrate, Mrs. O. Kusanu, granted the defendant bail. The court set the bail with two sureties who must provide evidence of means of livelihood and tax payment with addresses verified by the court.

The matter was adjourned for mention. The defendant was remanded in custody at the correctional center pending perfection of her bail conditions. The court directed that all bail requirements must be satisfied before release.

The court adjourned the case to a later date for further hearing as the trial process continues under due process of the law.
