Wike confirms appointment of 1,659 FCTA workers

Nyesom Wike, the minister of the federal capital territory has approved the confirmation of appointments for 1,659 staff members of the federal capital territory administration.

The workers were among 2,281 candidates who participated in a confirmation examination organised by the FCT Civil Service Commission on February 28, 2026.

According to a statement issued on Sunday by Lere Olayinka, the minister’s senior special assistant on public communications and social media, Emeka Ezeh, the chairman of the commission disclosed that some of the affected staff had been in service since 2016 and 2019.

Ezeh explained that 2,512 candidates were initially invited for the confirmation exercise but only 2,281 appeared for the examination.

He added that 224 workers failed to attend, raising concerns that some of them might be ghost workers.

The commission also noted that while some of the workers had been employed several years ago, others joined the service shortly before Wike assumed office as FCT minister in August 2023.

Meanwhile, the commission said arrangements have been finalised to conduct the 2025 and 2026 promotion exercises after receiving approval from the minister, in line with the administration’s efforts to improve staff welfare and career development.

Affected workers have been advised to check their confirmation status on the commission’s official website.

Earlier in January, Wike approved the promotion of more than 2,000 FCTA workers following promotion examinations conducted between November 25 and 29, 2025.
