Wife stabs husband over wrappers, phone in Bauchi

An 18-year-old woman, Fatima Dalha, has allegedly stabbed her 30-year-old husband in the stomach during a disagreement over wrappers, a phone and money in Dass Local Government Area of Bauchi State.

The Police Public Relations Officer, SP Nafi’u Habib, disclosed this to newsmen on Sunday in Bauchi.

He said the incident occurred on Sunday, October 25, 2026, at about 6:00 a.m. in Lirr Bajar, Dass LGA.

According to him, what started as a heated argument between husband and wife turned bloody after the wife confronted her husband, demanding her money, wrappers and phone which she said were in his possession.

“Words failed. Tempers flared. The argument turned into a physical fight,” he said.

“In a moment of rage and desperation, Fatima reached for a knife lying close by and stabbed her husband in the stomach. The husband fell, bleeding. The neighbourhood erupted. An angry mob gathered, ready to lynch the young woman.”

Habib said police operatives from Dass Division raced to the scene and rescued her from jungle justice, while rushing the wounded husband to a hospital where he is currently receiving treatment.

He said the suspect has been detained, the knife recovered, and the case will be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Bauchi, for discreet investigation.

He added: “Behind the uniform, behind the case file, are two young lives, a marriage of barely months, now shattered by anger that could have been resolved with words.”

The Commissioner of Police, CP Sani-Omolori Aliyu, expressed concern over rising cases of domestic violence among young couples, noting that a moment of anger can destroy two lives.

He advised couples to seek peaceful means of resolving disputes through family, elders and lawful channels instead of resorting to violence.

The CP also warned against jungle justice and reiterated the Command’s resolve to ensure justice is served professionally and humanely.
