Viral travel guide misleads public, Lagos Taskforce insists

By Deborah Akpede

The Lagos State Environmental and Special Offences Unit (Taskforce) has dismissed a viral post alleging that its operatives are stationed around Sheraton Link Bridge inward Opebi and along Toyin Street to arrest unsuspecting motorists.

The spokesperson of the taskforce, Mr Abdulraheem Gbadeyan, dismissed the allegations in a statement  in Lagos.

He described the circulating travel guide as false, misleading, and malicious, noting that it was designed to misinform the public and damage the taskforce’s reputation.

Gbadeyan said the claims that the officials were targeting motorists making turns in the affected areas were entirely untrue and without any basis.

According to him, the agency has not been involved in traffic enforcement operations since April 1 following a directive by the Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Command, Mr Fatai Tijani, aimed at maintaining law and order across the state.

“The agency’s current operations are focused strictly on environmental enforcement and the arrest of miscreants, street urchins, and suspected drug addicts.

“Any report linking it to traffic-related arrests in Opebi, Toyin Street, or surrounding areas is a deliberate attempt to mislead the public, ” he stated.

The image maker warned individuals impersonating Taskforce officials or engaging in illegal enforcement activities to desist or face arrest and prosecution.

The spokesperson urged residents to disregard the viral claims and encouraged members of the public to report suspicious activities through its official communication channels. (NAN)(www.nannews.ng)
