Viral gun video: Kano police invite NDC aspirant Warkal for questioning

The Kano State Police Command has invited Hon. Aminu Abdullahi Warkal for questioning over a viral video in which he was allegedly seen displaying a firearm during what appeared to be a political gathering.

The police said the weapon seen in the footage was suspected to be a pump-action rifle.

The Command’s Public Relations Officer, CSP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, disclosed this in a statement, saying the video was discovered during routine cyber patrol by police personnel monitoring activities across the state.

According to Kiyawa, the alleged display of the firearm could amount to a violation of the Firearms Act if established by investigation.

He said such conduct could also create fear among members of the public, intimidate citizens and undermine public peace and security.

Following the development, Kiyawa said the Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, directed that Warkal be invited to the Command Headquarters in Bompai, Kano.

“He is currently at the Command’s State Intelligence Department (SID) and investigation is in progress,” the police spokesperson said.

The Command said the invitation formed part of its broader intelligence-led efforts to monitor activities and prevent security threats across the state.

The police also warned that it would not tolerate acts of lawlessness, political thuggery or the unlawful display of weapons capable of threatening public safety.

Kiyawa said the warning applied to everyone regardless of political affiliation or status.

The Command urged politicians, their supporters and other stakeholders involved in political activities to conduct themselves peacefully and comply with relevant laws, including the Electoral Act and Firearms Act.

“All political activities must be conducted in a manner that promotes peace, tolerance and respect for the rule of law,” he said.

The Kano Police Command further reaffirmed its commitment to protecting lives and property and maintaining peace across the state before, during and after the political season.

The development follows the circulation of the video on social media, which had earlier sparked widespread reactions over the alleged display of a firearm during a political event.
