Mr. Kunle Adegoke (SAN) (2nd right) after being honoured by The US House of Representatives

The Georgia House of Representatives in the United States of America (USA) has honoured prominent Nigerian lawyer and All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate for the Osun Central Senatorial District in the January 2027 general election, Kunle Adejoke (SAN) for his recognition and contributions to the legal profession, human rights advocacy and democratic governance.

The honour was formally presented at a ceremony held in Atlanta, Georgia, on June 21, 2026, during an event organised by the Emerging Leaders Dialogues and Q&A Series.

The recognition followed the adoption of Resolution 1449 by the Georgia House of Representatives on February 24, 2026, commending Adegoke (SAN), for what lawmakers described as his distinguished legal service, commitment to human rights, and contributions to constitutional democracy.

The resolution praised Adegoke as “an internationally respected legal practitioner, constitutional scholar, and human rights advocate,” noting that he had devoted significant portions of his legal career to pro bono representation in matters involving environmental justice, labour rights, freedom of information, electoral integrity and the protection of indigent and marginalized persons.

According to the resolution, Adegoke has consistently demonstrated a commitment to defending the public interest, often challenging powerful institutions in pursuit of justice and accountability.

The legislative commendation was facilitated by five members of the Georgia House of Representatives, including Hon. Segun Adeyina of the 110th District, Hon. Adesanya of the 43rd District, Hon. Gabe Okoye of the 102nd District, Hon. Olaleye of the 59th District and Hon. El Mahdi Holly of the 116th District.

The event, which marked the inaugural edition of the Emerging Leaders Dialogues and Q&A Series, attracted members of the Nigerian diaspora community, American public officials and business leaders.

Among those in attendance were Hon. Segun Adeyina, Oba Bernard S. Akinrimisi, Hon. Kunle Masha, Otunba Rasaq Ibrahim, Olanrewaju Suraju and his wife, Damilola Suraju, Bello Oyakhilome, as well as the convener of the programme, Dr. Atilade O. Oshoniyi, and his wife, Mrs. Ronke Oshoniyi, a retired magistrate.

Also present was Hon. Terry Cummings, a member of the Georgia House of Representatives, who joined other dignitaries in celebrating Adegoke’s achievements.

As part of the event, Adegoke delivered a lecture titled “Leadership Before Power, Service Before Position,” in which he addressed leadership challenges facing Nigeria and outlined what he described as practical solutions to the country’s economic, social and political problems.

The lecture focused on the need for value-driven leadership, public accountability and service-oriented governance.

Participants at the event reportedly engaged actively with the presentation, which explored issues ranging from democratic development and institutional reform to citizen participation and national development.

In its resolution, the Georgia House of Representatives stated that the promotion of democratic values, constitutional governance and human rights constitutes a shared global responsibility, adding that Adegoke exemplifies the ideals of justice, integrity and public service admired by the people of Georgia.

The resolution further directed the Clerk of the House to make an official copy available to Adegoke in recognition of his accomplishments and public service.

Speaking at the event, Representatives Adeyina and Cummings commended Adegoke’s commitment to public service and democratic values.

Cummings, in his remarks, described Adegoke as a leader whose courage and willingness to speak truth to power were qualities needed to positively transform society.

“It’s people like you that are needed to change the lives of the people. I can see you speak truth to power and as you speak from your heart,” the lawmaker said.

The honour adds an international dimension to Adegoke’s public profile as he prepares to contest for the Osun Central Senatorial seat under the platform of the APC in the 2027 general election.
