A new social-impact platform, Urgent2K, has been launched in Abuja to provide emergency financial assistance of ₦2,000 to verified Nigerians facing immediate financial needs.
The platform was unveiled on Thursday, October 1, 2026, by the team lead Engineer Oseagah Solomon and members of the Urgent2K team, with the initiative designed to connect Nigerians in need with individuals and organisations willing to provide small but immediate financial support.
Speaking at the launch in Abuja, Engineer Oseagah Solomon said the initiative was created around the need to provide immediate assistance to Nigerians who may require a relatively small amount of money to address urgent needs.
He said the initiative would enable Nigerians, particularly those in the diaspora, to provide financial support to verified beneficiaries through a platform designed to ensure transparency and traceability.
According to him, Urgent2K has established systems for beneficiary verification, financial accountability, fraud prevention and oversight to ensure that funds donated through the platform reach the intended beneficiaries.
The platform, according to Eng. Osaegah will initially focus on ₦2,000 emergency interventions, with the funds intended to support immediate needs such as food, transportation, medication and cooking gas.
The initiative is also expected to work with governments, businesses and corporate organisations through its Corporate Impact Partnership programme.
A member of the Urgent2K team, Mr Peter Umem, said the project had been in development since 2025 and had finally commenced operations to enable Nigerians in need to request the intervention.
“We are excited today to launch Urgent2K, a project that has been on the pipeline since 2025. Today, we are all glad that Nigerians who are in need of Urgent2K are able to use this platform to request for Urgent2K,” Umem said.
He explained that prospective beneficiaries could register through the Urgent2K website or download the Android application from the Google Play Store.
He said Nigerians could visit www.urgent2k.ng to register and request the intervention, adding that the organisation could also be reached through its social media platforms.
Responding to a question on how artisans and Nigerians without smartphones or sufficient access to data would benefit from the initiative, Eng. Solomon said the first phase of the platform requires beneficiaries to have an Android phone and at least 10 megabytes of data.
“Our primary aim for now is to reach out to those Nigerians, every Nigerian, every Nigerian that needs this help, this impact. Of course, we know the artisan, my grandmother in the village, my uncle, they need to access 2K, but the platform as such today is that you must have at least 10 MB, you must have an Android phone to be able to access this. That is the first phase,” he said.
He, however, disclosed that the organisation is also considering a USSD option as part of the second phase of the initiative to enable Nigerians without Android devices to access the platform.
“The second phase is that we’re also very much considering those that don’t have access to Android phone, but they can use USSD. That is the second phase. And once we get there, we will reach out and they will benefit as well,” he said.
On the sustainability of the initiative, he called on Nigerians in the country and in diaspora to contribute to the programme by providing ₦2,000 to people in need.
He said the intervention was intended to address immediate needs that could arise in the course of daily activities, including transportation, cooking gas and other necessities.
Eng. Solomon further disclosed that the initiative had commenced its first disbursements, with more than 1,000 subscribers who had already registered and completed the verification process expected to receive the intervention.
“For the co-founders, we’ve already started today and we’re giving over 1,000 subscribers, those that have already subscribed, those that have already been verified, they will get it and we are continuing. We are not stopping. We’ve set the ball rolling. We’ll run with it and we’ll deliver to every Nigerian,” he said.
He added that the initiative was seeking to provide Nigerians with a platform they could use to support people in need while having mechanisms to verify beneficiaries and track contributions.
Responding to questions on the security of the platform and protection of users’ data, Engineer Solomon said Urgent2K had established multiple layers of technological security to protect users’ information.
“Data is key. We have layers of firewall, layers of technology protections on our data to protect individuals,” Solomon said.
He added that the platform had data protection policies which users could review and said measures had also been introduced to address cybersecurity threats, including phishing and unauthorised access to users’ information.
Solomon said the platform had also incorporated payment gateways recognised internationally to secure financial transactions and prevent the diversion of funds.
He further said the platform had undergone a verification process as part of measures to ensure the security of users’ data and funds.
The Urgent2K team said the initiative has set an initial fundraising target running into millions of naira, with each contribution earmarked for ₦2,000 emergency interventions.
The platform is currently accessible through www.urgent2k.ng, while its Android application is available on the Google Play Store. The organisation also said it could be reached through its social media platforms, including @urgent2k_ on Instagram and @urgent2k.ng on X.
