The remains of Success Ezenwafor, the Nnamdi Azikiwe University(UNIZIK) primary school pupil, who was swept away by Tuesday’s flood, have been laid to rest amid tears in his hometown.
TheNewsGuru earlier reported that the remains of Ezenwafor were recovered following rescue efforts led by Prince Chinedu Okafor, Mayor of Awka South LGA.
In a statement shared by former managing director of Anambra Broadcasting Service, Uche Nworah, two other children from the family involved in the incident were rescued, in addition to Ezenwafor.
“The body of the missing child, Success Ezenwafor, has been recovered. The other children are in stable condition and receiving medical treatment at the hospital. I am at Amaku Teaching Hospital at the moment”, the statement said.
“We commiserate deeply with the Ezenwafor family over this heartbreaking loss. I spoke with a family member, who said they are understandably distraught.”
In a new development, Prince Chinedu Okafor disclosed that late Ezenwafor was laid to rest on Wednesday, 23rd September 2026, in his hometown of Ekwulobia, Aguata Local Government Area of Anambra State.
He added that, “It is heartbreaking that such a young and promising life was cut short in such tragic circumstances.
“May the innocent soul of Success rest in perfect peace, and may God grant his grieving family the strength and fortitude to bear this painful loss.”
