The national working committee (NWC) of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) has dismissed the suspension of Hashimu Dungurawa as Kano chairman.
Party officers from Gargari ward in Dawakin Tofa local government had announced his removal on Monday, accusing him of fuelling division and internal discord.
Dungurawa is widely known as an ally of Rabiu Kwankwaso, former governor of Kano and national leader of the NNPP.
The Kano executive committee followed up on Tuesday by naming Abdullahi Abiya as acting chairman of the party in the state.
However, Ladipo Johnson, NNPP spokesperson, issued a statement rejecting the development and condemning the suspension.
He described the move as “misplaced, undemocratic, null, void and of no effect whatsoever”.
“Their action indeed amounts to a gross anti-party activity as it violates the extant provisions of the Party’s constitution,” the statement reads.
Johnson insisted that Dungurawa has consistently demonstrated loyalty and commitment to the party’s growth in Kano.
He added that the embattled chairman remains valued by the party leadership for his contribution to structure, cohesion and mobilisation.
The statement reaffirmed the authority of the national leadership and urged members to disregard the ward decision.
