Starter kits for beneficiaries of the Federal Government’s Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) programme have started arriving at training centres across Nigeria’s 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
Beneficiaries are expected to begin receiving the kits soon.
A kit displayed for computer hardware and repairs training contains screwdrivers and other tools used for computer repairs and testing. It also includes a bag with pockets for keeping the equipment.
The bag carries the logos of TVET, the Federal Ministry of Education (FME) and the Renewed Hope initiative.
The tools are intended to support practical training and could help beneficiaries establish their own businesses after completing their courses.
Other trades, including tailoring, are also among about 20 trades being considered for starter packs.
The programme is designed to equip trainees with practical skills that can help them pursue self-employment, establish businesses and become employers of labour.
The kits are expected to provide beneficiaries with equipment relevant to their chosen trades as they prepare to complete their training.
However, the arrival of the kits at training centres does not mean every beneficiary can immediately collect one. Distribution will depend on the relevant training centre and whether the beneficiary’s trade is among those eligible for starter packs.
Beneficiaries should therefore avoid relying on unofficial claims about collection dates or eligibility and seek confirmation from their training centres.
How to collect
Beneficiaries should keep in touch with their training centres for information on the pickup date and confirm that their trade is among those eligible for starter packs.
