Turaki expresses confidence in PDP’s survival, 2027 victory

The National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Interim National Working Committee (INWC), Tanimu Turaki, says the party will survive its current challenges.

He also expressed confidence that the PDP would win the 2027 general elections.

Turaki spoke on Saturday in Abuja while receiving PDP governorship candidates who purchased nomination forms under his faction.

“When the going gets tough like this, it is only the tough that gets going. Nigeria will never go down. PDP will also not go down.

“Whatever machinations that anybody or group of persons may make, PDP will continue to survive,” he said.

On the recent Court of Appeal judgment, Turaki said the party had directed its legal team to study the ruling.

He said the team would provide professional advice on the next course of action.

Turaki clarified that actions by the PDP Board of Trustees (BoT) and leadership did not constitute filing a fresh case.

Rather, he said, they sought an authentic interpretation and harmonious reading of existing court judgments.

These included judgments from the FCT High Court, Federal High Court, Court of Appeal and Supreme Court.

According to him, the judgments affirmed the INWC as the party’s genuine and legitimate leadership.

“All that we were asking the courts to do is interpret these judgments. We hope our lawyers will take the matter to the Supreme Court to present our grievances.

“Justice shall be done by the special grace of God,” Turaki said.

He urged party members and supporters nationwide to remain calm and shun violence.

Turaki expressed optimism that the legal challenges would soon be resolved.

He also expressed confidence that candidates submitted to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) by his leadership would appear on the ballot.

Earlier, the delegation’s leader, Mr Sunday Biggs, said the visit was to express solidarity with the INWC.

He said the candidates also wanted to encourage efforts toward rebuilding and unifying the party.

Biggs said the forum advocated strategic measures to strengthen grassroots structures and promote internal unity.

He called for the urgent and competent pursuit of appeals at the Supreme Court.

He also recommended broader reconciliation platforms for aggrieved members and improved communication to prevent misinformation and anxiety.

“We have come here to reaffirm one important message: we believe in the PDP. We stand with the party, and we are committed to its survival and success,” Biggs said.

He pledged the governorship candidates’ loyalty and cooperation toward rebuilding a stronger and more competitive PDP.

Biggs urged the INWC to remain focused, courageous and committed to preserving the party.

He stressed the need for unity, respect for the rule of law and collective interest.

He said individual interests must not undermine efforts to overcome the challenges confronting the party.
