The Nigerian Army has recorded significant success in its ongoing operations against bandits in Kwara State, following sustained offensives by troops of 22 Armoured Brigade under 2 Division.
The operations, conducted between January 23 and 29, 2026, were carried out under Operation Igbo Danu (Forest Flush) with support from the Office of the National Security Adviser.
The exercise was led by the General Officer Commanding, 2 Division, Major General Chinedu Nnebife, and the Commander, 22 Brigade, Brigadier General Nicholas Rume.
According to a statement issued by the Army, troops carried out fighting patrols in several bandits’ enclaves, neutralising some terrorists and forcing others to flee with gunshot wounds.
The troops also destroyed hideouts and camps, while Garin Dandi in Ifelodun Local Government Area, identified as a major logistics base, was cleared.
Remote camps previously inaccessible to security forces were also stormed, leading to the destruction of abandoned facilities and supply networks.
Despite the difficult terrain, troops maintained an aggressive posture, blocked escape routes and arrested fleeing suspects.
Several kidnap victims were rescued during the operations.
The Army observed that some residents provide intelligence to bandits, enabling them to evade security forces.
Major General Nnebife appealed to members of the public to provide credible information to enhance ongoing operations.
He assured that the military would continue its offensive until all terrorist networks in Kwara State are dismantled.
