Tommy Lee is rolling down memory lane.
The musician pulled back the curtain on his life as an escort before gaining ground in the entertainment industry with his heavy metal band “Mötley Crüe.” He shared in-depth details about his former profession and lifestyle, which he has since put behind him.
Tommy Lee has been open about his past and several vices he stumbled into through the years, including when he decided it was time to hop on the sobriety train.
Lee’s journey to fame was anything but a smooth ride, as at one point he took a job in a whole different industry. While still trying to find their footing as a rock band, the iconic drummer took on a job as an escort, which paid him way more than “Mötley Crüe” could at the time.
He detailed how the opportunity to date older women for money came knocking at his door years ago, saying, “We all had moved into an apartment together, then we [met] this lady who’s the madame.”
The musician shared that his dates with the older women he linked up with could be as simple as just going to dinner and keeping them company or getting intimate.
During his recent conversation with Dax Shepard on the “Armchair Expert” podcast, Lee revealed that he earned up to $500, which was a huge top-up from the $20 per week he made from his band at the time.
“Sometimes I would go and just sit and have dinner with them,’ he shared. ‘Just dinner, literally. The women just wanted company just to dine with. But you know what? I think I was lucky too, because a couple of the older women that I got, they were actually really fun,” he recalled.
The Musician Also Recalled His Struggles With Addiction
During the same podcast, Lee got candid about one of the darkest times in his life. The artist reflected on how deep he had sunk in heroin addiction while being out with his bandmates. At the time when the scales fell from his eyes, he realized how dangerous his substance use had become.
The “Shout at the Devil” artist remembered running out of heroin one night while he was with his “bass player.” Although he did not name the band’s bassist, Nikki Sixx, he revealed that they decided to inject Jack Daniel’s whiskey into their system as a substitute for heroin.
“What are we gonna do,” he recalled thinking after running out of drugs around 3 or 4 a.m. “We were shooting Jack Daniel’s,” they resorted, then filled the bottle top with some whiskey and sucked it up with syringes.
At this point, it hit Lee: their addiction had crossed a line. “It was at that moment where I went, ‘OK! We could just drink this, but we’re shooting it.’ This is f-cking wrong, and somebody’s gonna die.”
The Members Of ‘Mötley Crüe’ Sought Help Together
Lee shared that he, along with the rest of his bandmates, decided to go to rehab because they feared that, with the way things were going, “someone’s going to die soon.” They checked into rehab and group therapy in the late 80s while they were working on their fifth studio album, “Dr. Feelgood.”
The instrumentalist also noted that to ensure they stayed clean, the whole group relocated to Vancouver, B.C., in order to make the album while working on staying sober together. “Dr Feelgood” ended up topping the charts as No.1 on the Billboard 200 list for 109 weeks.
Being in therapy with people who were going through the same struggles as Lee was eye-opening for him. “We’d all get together and talk about how everybody’s dealing with this new arrangement,” the drummer recalled. He also admitted that his sobriety has remained an ongoing journey, noting that the longest he’s been fully sober is three years.
The Artist Got Inspired To Revisit His Previous Works Of Art
Lee shared that getting a Dolby Atmos for his home studio was the switch he needed to revive his interest in some of his old musical projects. His kids also encouraged him to “re-release” remixes of his older songs, which came out nearly two decades ago.
The “Mötley Crüe” drummer dropped “Tommyland Rides Again” in May, which is an expanded and refurbished treatment of his 2005 album “Tommyland: The Ride.” Lee’s second solo album had new tracks like “Stupid World,” which he wrote during the COVID-19 pandemic.
As reported by Billboard, the artist shared that he gets inspired to create music in the midst of challenges, especially in a time when things have significantly evolved from what they used to be when his career was just kicking off. He disclosed that his inspiration to be better stems from the desire to make things stand out in special ways.
Tommy Lee’s Wife Makes Massive Bucks From Adult Entertainment
Lee’s fourth and current wife, Brittany Furlan, revealed the details of her income from OF as part of discovery for a legal catfishing case with musician Ronnie Radke. As part of legal documents, Furlan reportedly submitted screenshots of her earnings for March and April from the online entertainment platform.
The documents showed that she works up to 80 hours weekly and earns about $45,000 on average every month. The Blast reported that the influencer also detailed her expenses, which included splitting the household bills with her husband and bearing some financial weight for taxes and insurance.
Lee’s wife also listed that she has $17,000 in income from a real estate trust and $2 million in stocks and bonds. From her earnings, Furlan is able to afford $50,000 on gifts and entertainment each year and an additional $20,000 in auto insurance and transportation expenses.
