President Bola Tinubu has approved fresh three-year terms for the Director-General of the National Television Authority (NTA), Abdulhamid Salihu Dembos, and the Managing Director of the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), Ali Mohammed Ali.
The presidency announced the development on Sunday, confirming that both media executives will remain in their respective positions for another term.
Their renewed appointments will take effect from October 20, 2026.
Dembos, an experienced broadcaster and media administrator from Yola, Adamawa State, has spent decades working within the NTA system.
He joined the organisation as an announcer at the NTA Kaduna station in 1989 after completing his National Youth Service Corps programme and subsequently rose through various positions.
Over the course of his career, Dembos served as General Manager of NTA Lokoja and NTA Kano, among other roles. He also became the acting Zonal Director of the NTA Kaduna Network Centre before retiring from the organisation in 2017.
Following his retirement, he returned to the NTA as Executive Director of Marketing. He also previously served as National President of the Radio, Television, Theatre and Art Workers Union (RATTAWU).
Meanwhile, NAN Managing Director Ali Mohammed Ali brings more than three decades of experience in journalism and media management to the position.
Ali has focused much of his career on the changing media landscape, particularly the development of content and the need for news organisations to adapt to digital platforms and the changing demands of audiences.
He studied English at Bayero University, Kano, and later obtained a graduate degree in International Affairs from Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria. He also holds a Postgraduate Diploma in Mass Communication from Bayero University.
In approving the renewed appointments, President Tinubu charged both executives to continue working towards the objectives of their respective organisations.
The President also urged them to justify the confidence placed in them by maintaining commitment to their institutional mandates and supporting the government’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
