President Bola Tinubu has directed the armed forces to review security operations nationwide, including the deployment of advanced military hardware and surveillance equipment, to eliminate terrorist groups across Nigeria.
The directive comes as Vice President Senator Kashim Shettima extended condolences to the government and people of Borno State over the recent terrorist attack in Darajamal community, Bama Local Government Area, which claimed numerous lives, including civilians and soldiers.
According to a statement by his spokesman, Stanley Nkwocha, VP Shettima reiterated the President’s instructions for intensified security measures and assured that federal authorities remain committed to protecting citizens.
Borno State Governor Babagana Umara Zulum visited Darajamal community on Saturday to console families of the victims. In his message on Monday, VP Shettima described the incident as a profound loss to both the state and the nation.
“I extend my heartfelt condolences to Governor Zulum, the people of Borno State, and the Nigerian military over the tragic loss of our compatriots,” Shettima said. “These deaths have left the entire nation in collective grief, but we are confident that justice will be served for the bereaved families.”
The Vice President expressed confidence in the armed forces’ capacity to tackle the state’s security challenges, noting President Tinubu’s approval for additional drones and his directive for all security agencies to intensify operations and review strategies.
Shettima also highlighted the federal government’s consideration of establishing state police, emphasizing the need for specialized units capable of operating effectively within local terrains and communities.
He concluded by offering prayers for the bereaved families and assuring both the state government and affected communities of continued federal support in addressing the security situation.
