President Bola Tinubu has approved the appointment of Dr. Wasiu Olanrewaju-Smart as his new Special Adviser on National Assembly Matters (House of Representatives), with immediate effect.
The appointment was announced in a statement issued on Sunday by the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga.
According to the statement, Olanrewaju-Smart succeeds Ibrahim Olanrewaju, who stepped down from the position to pursue an elective political office in his home state.
The Presidency described the new appointee as a seasoned scholar, legislative strategist, and public policy expert with extensive experience in parliamentary affairs and executive-legislative relations.
Before his latest appointment, Olanrewaju-Smart served as Senior Special Assistant to President Tinubu on Intergovernmental Affairs, a role he assumed in October 2023.
His legislative career spans several key positions within the National Assembly, beginning as a Research and Media Assistant to the Minority and Majority Leaders of the House of Representatives during the 7th and 8th Assemblies.
He later rose through the ranks to serve as Special Adviser, Deputy Chief of Staff, and eventually Chief of Staff to the Speaker of the House of Representatives during both the 9th and 10th Assemblies.

The Presidency noted that Olanrewaju-Smart played significant roles in policy formulation and legislative development, contributing to the drafting and advancement of several landmark bills, including the Interest-Free Student Loan Act.
President Tinubu expressed confidence that the new Special Adviser would leverage his wealth of legislative experience, policy expertise, and deep understanding of government processes to strengthen collaboration between the Presidency, Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs), and the House of Representatives.
The statement added that the appointment takes immediate effect as the administration continues efforts to deepen legislative engagement and improve coordination between the executive and the National Assembly.
