Nollywood has been thrown into mourning following the death of actor Chijioke Temidayo Nwokafor, popularly known as Cjay.
Cjay’s death was announced on Wednesday by actress Nkechi Blessing Sunday, who shared an emotional video from the hospital where the actor was reportedly confirmed dead.
In the video, the visibly distraught actress struggled to contain her emotions as she mourned her colleague.
Nkechi did not disclose the cause of death or provide further details about the circumstances surrounding the actor’s passing.
Sharing the video on Instagram, she wrote: “Cjay this was never the plan 💔💔 Guys unfortunately I won’t be dropping my movie anymore!! This one pain me.”
The announcement has sparked an outpouring of grief among fans and colleagues in the Nigerian film industry, with many mourning the loss of an actor whose career was still developing.
Cjay’s journey in Nollywood
Cjay was a native of Awka, Anambra State, but was based in Lagos, where he pursued his acting career.
He began his professional journey in Nollywood in 2021 and went on to feature in a number of movie productions.
Among the films credited to him are Larry Cold, Mum Overnight, A Day To My Wedding, The Lies She Tell and What Time Left.

Although his career was relatively young, Cjay had continued to build his presence in the industry through film appearances and collaborations with other actors.
His death comes at a time when the Nigerian entertainment industry has once again been confronted with the loss of one of its younger talents.
The actor’s passing marks another painful loss for an industry that has continued to mourn the deaths of several of its members in recent years.
