“They attended a wedding instead” – Man alleges government officials snubbed Brigadier Braimah’s funeral

A Nigerian man has sparked outrage online after calling out the government over the burial of fallen army officer, Brigadier General Oseni Braimah, who was killed in Boko Haram attack.

According to him, the brigadier general was laid to rest on April 18, 2026, but neither President Bola Ahmed Tinubu nor Vice President Kashim Shettima attended the funeral.

“Remember the army general that was ambushed and killed in the North? He was laid to rest on the 18th of April 2026, and guess what? The President and the Vice President, none of them attended,” he said.

He compared the situation with other countries, saying fallen soldiers are usually honoured with top-level respect and presence from leaders.

The man further alleged that while the general was being buried in Maiduguri, top government officials were attending a wedding ceremony in the same state.

“In that same city, Maiduguri, the governor’s daughter was getting married. The Vice President attended. Ministers attended. But a general who died in active service, they did not go. They left his corpse to his fellow soldiers and buried him like a chicken,” he added.

He also criticised the government’s handling of insecurity, alleging that while victims remain in captivity, efforts are being made to reintegrate repentant terrorists into society.

The emotional outburst has intensified conversations online about insecurity, governance, and how fallen heroes are honoured in Nigeria.
