Bayelsa State is set to make history on Tuesday, July 28, 2026, as it host the Pilot of the Nationwide National Grassroots LPG Penetration Programme (NGLPP) under Nigeria’s Decade of Gas initiative.
The Pilot marks the beginning of a nationwide outreach programme aimed at expanding access to Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) and encouraging households to adopt cleaner, safer and more efficient cooking fuel.
According to the Decade of Gas the Bayelsa activation signals the start of a state-by-state rollout that will bring the benefits of clean cooking energy to communities across the country.
The National Grassroots LPG Penetration Programme is designed to help Nigerian households transition from traditional cooking fuels such as firewood and charcoal to LPG, with the goal of improving public health, reducing environmental degradation and supporting sustainable economic development.
The initiative also aligns with the Federal Government’s vision of building a gas-powered economy by increasing domestic gas utilisation and improving energy access nationwide, with a target of reaching 5 million Nigerian households with clean cooking solutions through LPG by 2030.
The Bayelsa Pilot is expected to bring together government officials, industry stakeholders, development partners, community representatives snd Bayelsa women as the programme begins its nationwide journey.
With the countdown now at one day, anticipation continues to build ahead of what is expected to be a significant milestone in Nigeria’s clean energy transition and the expansion of LPG access across the country.
