There is growing anticipation in Ijebuland as 95 princes and princesses have indicated interest in the vacant Awujale stool, following the death of Oba Sikiru Adetona on July 13.
Prominent contenders from the Fusengbuwa Ruling House include Fatai Arowolo, CEO of Aroon Construction Company; Biodun Onanuga; and Dr Kunle Hassan, founder of Eye Foundation Hospital. Princess Kemi Adetokunbo Onanuga is the only female aspirant among the contestants.
The development was disclosed on Monday during a nomination meeting of the Fusengbuwa Ruling House held in Ijebu-Ode, Ogun State. The meeting was attended by ruling house leaders, delegates, observers and security operatives drawn from the police, DSS and NSCDC.
Speaking at the meeting, the Olori-Ebi of the ruling house, Otunba Lateef Owoyemi, confirmed that all 95 aspirants successfully scaled the initial stage of the selection process. He explained that their names would be forwarded to the kingmakers, who will select one candidate and submit the choice to the Ogun State Government for approval.
Owoyemi described the exercise as peaceful and transparent, adding that all aspirants signed an agreement committing to no litigation regardless of the outcome. He expressed confidence that the kingmakers would select a candidate divinely approved and acceptable to the people of Ijebuland.
