Governor Ahmed Aliyu has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to strengthening collaboration with security agencies during a meeting with the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, in Abuja.
According to a statement issued on Thursday by the governor’s media aide, Abubakar Bawa, the meeting took place on Wednesday at the Force Headquarters, where both leaders discussed strategies to intensify operations against banditry and other violent crimes in Sokoto State and beyond.
Aliyu stressed that safeguarding lives and property is a shared responsibility, not solely that of the Federal Government. He noted that security remains central to his administration’s 9-Point Smart Innovative Agenda, adding that sustainable development cannot be achieved without peace.
He reiterated his government’s resolve to work closely with the police and other security agencies to enhance safety across the state. As part of these efforts, the governor disclosed that over 200 patrol vehicles have been procured and distributed to security agencies since he assumed office to improve rapid response and operational efficiency.
While acknowledging that banditry continues to pose a serious challenge, Aliyu said security forces have made significant progress in recent months and urged them to sustain the momentum. He emphasised the importance of intelligence gathering and stronger inter-agency cooperation in tackling insecurity.
The governor also called for deeper synergy among security agencies, warning that disjointed efforts could weaken the fight against organised crime.
He commended former Sokoto State Commissioner of Police, Ahmed Musa, now an Assistant Inspector-General, for his contributions to the state’s security framework, and urged the newly deployed Commissioner of Police, Hayatu Hassan, to build on that legacy.
In his response, Egbetokun praised the Sokoto State Government for its continued support for security operations and assured of the Nigeria Police Force’s commitment to sustained collaboration with the state.
The governor was accompanied on the visit by the Secretary to the State Government, Muhammad Bello Sifawa, and his Chief of Staff, Aminu Haliru Dikko.
