Cher‘s daughter-in-law is coming forward to take charge of Elijah Blue Allman‘s affairs!
The singer’s son’s wife, Marieangela King, has made her intention known to begin looking after her husband as his new legal guardian, as she provides cogent reasons.
Cher took a different route in her quest to become Elijah Blue Allman’s conservator back in April by nominating a licensed private professional fiduciary, Jason Rubin, to receive Allman’s trust distributions and manage his financial expenses.
King is insisting Rubin is not in the best position to protect her husband and she is now nominating herself in court to take on the role, arguing that Cher has been estranged from Allman for years. She added that her involvement in Allman’s life, whether directly or indirectly, goes against his wishes and interferes with their marriage.
King claimed that Cher has displayed patterns of hostility towards her and deliberately kept her out of deliberations about Allman’s well-being. She stated that other relatives of Allman, including his brothers Devon Allman and Chaz Bono, have also attempted to place him under a conservatorship or similar restrictions without her knowledge.
She noted in the documents that the California court dismissed or paused Cher’s petition, insisting that Allman has no permanent residence or meaningful connection to California and does not intend to return.
As stated by US Weekly, her choice to take the case out of California is because he is currently receiving involuntary treatment in New Hampshire and remains in state custody while facing criminal and mental competency proceedings.

The singer’s daughter-in-law continued that Allman’s finances are not in danger because his income is mostly from financial support and the trust established by his late father, hence no need for a probate conservator.
King added that she also ditched her latest divorce petition at Allman’s request, forfeiting a payout of $70,000 and unpaid spousal support to be there for Allman.
She continued that placing Allman under Cher’s care would undermine his recovery by taking away his independence against his wishes. King referenced Allman’s 2024 court filing opposing the choice of Cher as his conservator, arguing that his wife should have priority instead.
King affirmed her willingness and readiness to serve as conservator and help stabilize Allman’s spending, alongside resolving his financial affairs. She claimed Cher and other relatives have refused to cooperate with her on a long-term care plan and alleges they have attempted to influence medical professionals overseeing Allman.

3The Blast noted in June that Cher had argued in her conservatorship filing that Allman could not properly manage his finances as he had the habit of blowing through his funds by buying drugs, staying in luxury hotels, and using limousine transportation.
King rose to Allman’s defense, insisting that Cher’s concerns were unreasonably alarming and misleading, as the trustee still had an administrator identified as Michael Lehman who was placed by Allman’s father, Gregg Allman.
She claimed Lehman has sole discretion over the payments and Allman cannot independently access or exhaust the trust funds. King alleged that she has been unable to access key materials in the proceedings, including medical evaluation and the court investigator’s reports, as she asked the court to fully review the documents to help her participate more fully in the case.
King also argued that her years with Allman have given her firsthand knowledge of his history, previous treatment efforts and personal wishes. King maintained that her goal is to stand by the commitment she made when she married the singer’s son in 2013.
She communicated her intention to support him throughout the legal and treatment process and wants the opportunity to advocate for what she believes is in her husband’s best interests.

3King, during an exclusive interview with PEOPLE in 2025, revealed that when she first met Allman 14 years ago, she had no idea who he was until she mentioned his name to a friend who recognized him as the music icon’s son.
King and Allman had met while she was living in Germany, where she was making music with her sibling, and her mutual friend had arranged a blind date. However, King admitted that she was initially hesitant about the pairing because Allman was a decade older than her at the time.
When they eventually locked eyes, her reservations slowly faded thanks to the conversations in the first meeting because by the second meeting, King was convinced there was something truly special between them.
Despite coming from very different worlds, King said they connected through similar life experiences and understood each other in a way they had not found with other people.
In November 2013, their relationship eventually resulted in Allman proposing at their Beverly Hills residence. Just five days later, the couple married on December 1 in an intimate ceremony in front of their fireplace, attended only by an officiant, two close friends, and their bulldog, Andy Warhol.
King explained that she deliberately avoided an elaborate wedding because she wanted the occasion to remain private and focused solely on their commitment to each other.

The duo’s rocky marriage has survived addiction struggles, family conflict, and more than one attempt to end their union. US Weekly noted that Allman was sober when they married in 2013, but substance abuse soon became a major part of their marriage and often caused disagreement between King and Cher over how his treatment should go.
The tension thickened in 2023 when King publicly accused Cher of hiring four men to abduct Allman and take him to a treatment facility where he was kept from communicating with her. Cher denied orchestrating the event in 2023, insisting that a mother will never leave her child behind.
After separating in April 2020, Allman filed for divorce in November 2021 on the grounds of irreconcilable differences, only to withdraw the case in January 2024. In 2025, King initiated the second divorce, stating that their relationship had become irretrievably broken after over 11 years together and listed March 31, 2025, as their separation date.
The couple had no custody matters to resolve, but King requested $6,000 a month in temporary spousal support and reflected fondly on their time together despite the breakup. Another reversal came in June 2026 when King and Allman reconciled, with King declaring:
“I made Elijah a promise when I married him in 2013 that I would be there for him through sickness and in health, which is why I have fully dismissed my divorce petition without prejudice.”
