Vice-President Kashim Shettima will lead Nigeria’s delegation to the 80th session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA), which will take place in New York from Monday, September 22 to Sunday, September 28, 2025.
In a statement released by Stanley Nkwocha, Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Communications (Office of the Vice President), Shettima is scheduled to join global leaders at the high-level event marking the 80th anniversary of the United Nations, taking place on Monday, September 22 at the UN headquarters.
According to Mr. Nkwocha, the Vice President will also participate in the general debates from Tuesday, September 23 to Sunday, September 28.
Shettima is expected to deliver Nigeria’s National Statement on Wednesday, September 24, during the evening session between 3:00 p.m. and 9:00 p.m. (New York time).
He is also scheduled to attend a special Climate event for Heads of State and Government, hosted by the UN Secretary-General, on the same day—Wednesday, September 24, from 2:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. During this event, Nigeria is expected to announce its new Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) under the Paris Agreement.
In addition, the Vice President will attend the High-Level Roundtable of the Global Champions on Adequate and Affordable Housing, hosted by the President of Kenya, also on September 24. He will also take part in several bilateral meetings and side events throughout the week.
Following his engagements at UNGA, Shettima will travel to Frankfurt, Germany, for a meeting with officials of Deutsche Bank, before returning to Nigeria.
