The House of Representatives Committee on Nutrition and Food Security has summoned key financial and agricultural institutions, including the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), NIRSAL PLC, and the Bank of Agriculture (BOA), to appear before it as part of an ongoing investigation into the alleged misuse of an estimated N2 trillion in agriculture intervention funds.
The latest invitations were contained in a letter signed by the committee’s chairman, Hon. Chike Okafor, directing several agencies and financial institutions to attend the third phase of the investigative hearing.
According to the letter, the following institutions are to appear on Tuesday:
Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN)
Nigeria Agricultural Insurance Corporation (NAIC)
Unity Bank PLC
Ecobank PLC
Keystone Bank
Trust Microfinance Bank
Prospects Microfinance Bank
Nigeria Agricultural Research Council (ARCN)
National Agricultural Seeds Council (NASC)
National Agricultural Land Development Authority (NALDA)
Meanwhile, the Bank of Agriculture (BOA), NIRSAL Microfinance Bank, and NIRSAL PLC have been scheduled to appear on Wednesday.
The House had, on July 1, 2025, mandated its Committees on Nutrition and Food Security; Agricultural Production and Services; Agricultural Colleges and Institutions; and Finance to conduct a comprehensive probe into the alleged diversion, misapplication, and inefficiencies in federal agricultural intervention programmes implemented outside the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security.
Following the mandate, the Committee has so far held two investigative hearings — on April 8 and June 16, 2025. The upcoming session marks the third leg of the probe as lawmakers deepen scrutiny into how multiple agencies handled large-scale agricultural funds intended to enhance food security and farming productivity nationwide.
