Quick Collect system hacked, N95.9 million disappears

Quick Collect, an international money transfer and payment platform has been hacked, leading to the disappearance of N95,907,884.13.

The Federal High Court in Ikoyi, Lagos, has ordered the remand of four suspects linked to the cyberattack.

Justice Daniel Osiagor issued the remand order for Ada Chinyere Onuwualu, Okeke Innocent, Njoku Emmanuel Ejike, and Ogaga Iyomo, who were arraigned by the Force Criminal Investigation Department (Force CID) Annex, Alagbon.

The defendants all pleaded not guilty to a seven-count charge bordering on conspiracy, hacking, unlawful conversion of funds, stealing, and receiving stolen property.

According to the prosecution, the accused persons allegedly hacked into Quick Collect’s central system in June 2025 at No. 20 Adesola Street, Ikorodu, Lagos, and diverted the funds into various bank accounts. Investigators also revealed that part of the stolen money was converted into Kenyan Shillings, totalling KES 8,073,689.99.

One of the defendants, Ada Chinyere Onuwualu, was said to have received N36.2 million, which she reportedly deposited into her Keystone Bank account (Account No. 6050134351).

The offences violate provisions of the Advance Fee Fraud and Other Fraud-Related Offences Act (2006), the Cybercrimes (Prohibition, Prevention, etc.) Act (2015), and sections of the Criminal Code Act.

While the prosecution called for a trial date and for the suspects to be remanded, defence counsel informed the court that bail applications had been filed.

The prosecution countered that it had not been served and insisted that any bail granted should carry strict conditions.

Justice Osiagor granted each defendant N10 million bail with one surety who must possess a Certificate of Occupancy and hold at least a Grade Level 10 position in a government institution.

The suspects were ordered to remain in the custody of the Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS) until they meet their bail conditions.
