Police rescue 12-year-old Girl who disappeared with unknown woman

The Adamawa Police Command has rescued a 12-year-old girl, Mercy Kefas, after she went missing in Guyuk Local Government Area and was reportedly sighted travelling with an unidentified woman.

The search began after the girl’s mother, Mrs Mary Felix, reported her disappearance to the Guyuk Divisional Police Headquarters on Friday, September 18, 2026.

Police said the child was later seen with an unknown woman heading toward the Balanga/Talasse area, which led security officers to step up their search.

The Adamawa State Police Command said it quickly shared information about the missing girl with nearby communities and other police units as officers tried to find her.

The search was successful when the girl was found near the Talasse border area, where police also arrested a 20-year-old woman suspected of taking her.

Police identified the suspect as Jamila Yusuf, a resident of Lafiya Village in Balanga Local Government Area of Gombe State.

Police said the girl is now back with her family, and the suspect remains in custody.

The State Commissioner of Police, CP Kabir Umar Hassan, has asked the State Criminal Investigation Department to handle the case and carry out a thorough investigation into how the girl went missing.

Police said the investigation will help explain what happened to the child and clarify the suspect’s possible involvement.

Police encouraged parents and guardians to stay alert and quickly report any missing children or suspicious activity to security agencies.

The Police also asked the public to share information quickly if it could help prevent child abductions or other crimes in the state.
