Police in Lagos State have arrested five people suspected of vandalising telecommunication equipment and recovered a truck filled with what they believe are stolen iron rods in Ibeju-Lekki.
The suspects were reportedly caught stealing iron poles intended for building telecommunication masts. They were arrested while transporting the suspected stolen materials in a truck.
The suspects have been identified as Mohammed Shaibu, 26; Musa Zakari, 29; Abdullahi Bala, 22; Salisu Musa, 18; and Yahuza Bala, 20.
According to the Lagos State Police Command, these arrests are part of ongoing efforts to stop vandalism and theft of important infrastructure throughout the state.
The suspects are now in police custody, and the State Criminal Investigation Department is investigating the case. Police said they are still investigating to find other suspects who escaped and to understand the full scope of the group’s activities.
The Command also thanked the 81 Division of the Nigerian Army, saying their teamwork played a big role in the successful operation and arrests.
Lagos State Police Commissioner Tijani Fatai repeated the Command’s commitment to protecting important infrastructure and making sure those responsible for vandalism face justice.
He encouraged residents to quickly share any credible information about suspicious activities in their neighbourhoods.
