Police detain 52 suspects, recover ammunition in Enugu

The Enugu State Police Command says it arrested 52 suspects, recovered firearms and ammunition, and rescued three kidnapped victims between January 24 and 30.

SP Daniel Ndukwe, the command’s spokesperson, disclosed the figures in a weekly crime report on Saturday in Enugu.

Ndukwe said those in custody include three armed robbery suspects, 12 individuals linked to kidnapping, and three persons connected to homicide.

He added that two suspects were apprehended in relation to rape and defilement, four suspected cultists were detained, and 28 others were arrested for various offences across the state.

“The command further recovered one firearm, 20 rounds of ammunition of different calibres and six stolen vehicles,” Ndukwe said.

According to him, the three kidnapped victims were rescued during sustained intelligence-led operations in the week under review.

Other items recovered by the police included hard drugs and a significant quantity of weeds suspected to be Indian hemp, reflecting intensified efforts against drug-related crimes.

Ndukwe attributed the operational success to the dedication of police personnel, improved intelligence gathering, and collaboration with other security agencies and members of the public.

He reassured residents of the police’s commitment to sustaining the fight against crime and maintaining public safety across the state.

Ndukwe also urged citizens to support law enforcement agencies with timely and credible information to enhance proactive policing and rapid response to criminal activities.
