Oyo State Police Command has arrested a suspected member of a criminal syndicate allegedly involved in armed robbery, land grabbing and other violent crimes in Ibadan.
The command also said firearms and ammunition were recovered during the operation.
The suspect, Arowolo Ademola Adeyemo, popularly known as Demmy, was arrested at about 2:45 am on Friday, August 15, 2026, at a hideout in the Soka area of Ibadan.

The arrest was disclosed in a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Ayanlade Olayinka.
According to the statement, the arrest followed credible intelligence received by operatives of the Violent Crime Response Unit (VCRU), Oyo Base, indicating that members of the syndicate had converged at the location.
The police said the suspect, during interrogation, allegedly confessed to involvement in land grabbing, armed robbery and other violent crimes within the Ibadan metropolis.
The command said the information obtained from the suspect had provided leads towards identifying other alleged members of the group and determining the extent of their involvement in related criminal activities.
“Acting on the information, the operatives swiftly moved to the location and arrested one of the suspects. A search conducted during the operation led to the recovery of one fabricated English pistol, one long single-barrel gun, nine rounds of 9mm live ammunition and nine live cartridges,” the statement said.
The Commissioner of Police in Oyo State, CP Abimbola Ayodeji Olugbenga, directed operatives to intensify efforts to apprehend other members of the alleged gang who are still at large.
The command said investigation was ongoing and that the suspect would be charged to court upon its conclusion.
The police also reaffirmed their commitment to protecting lives and property across the state, urging members of the public to provide credible information to assist security agencies in combating crime.
