On Monday, a heartbreaking incident occurred at Ilara-Mokin Junction in Ifedore Local Government Area of Ondo State, where a woman identified as Oluwasola Victoria Adebayo reportedly collapsed and died while waiting for her daughter who was writing the ongoing Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME).
Sudden Health Crisis
According to eyewitnesses, the woman had accompanied her daughter to the examination centre earlier that day.
Shortly after arriving at the junction, she began to complain of weakness, raising concern among those around her.
Collapse Causes Panic
Moments later, she suddenly slumped, sending shockwaves through the area. Passersby and sympathisers quickly gathered, trying to understand what had happened.
Rescue Efforts Prove Abortive
Efforts to revive her were immediately made by people at the scene, but unfortunately, all attempts failed. She was later confirmed dead on the spot.
Daughter Inside Exam Hall
At the time of the incident, her daughter was said to be inside the examination hall, unaware of the tragic development unfolding outside as she continued writing her exam.
Residents React in Shock
A resident who identified the deceased as “Mommy Ayo” disclosed that she had earlier mentioned escorting her daughter to the venue.
The incident drew a large crowd, with many expressing sadness and disbelief over the sudden loss.
Police Confirm Development
Confirming the incident, the Ondo State Police Command spokesperson, DSP Abayomi Jimoh, described the situation as unfortunate.
“The Command notes with deep concern a sad incident involving the sudden death of a woman in Ilara Mokin. The family of the deceased has since been contacted and upon thorough checks, the remains of the deceased have been released to one Mr. Apapa Olamilekan, who identified himself as her son and an officer of the Nigeria Legion, Akure,” he said.
He added, “The Command commiserates with the family of the deceased and urges the public to remain calm.”
