No fewer than 1,535 officers in the Oyo State Local Government Service have been promoted following the conclusion of the 2025 promotion exercise conducted by the Oyo State Local Government Service Commission.
The promotion letters, which cover officers on Grade Levels 06 to 17, were issued to eligible staff of the commission as well as personnel across the seven professional departments in the 33 local government councils in the state.
A statement issued on Tuesday by the Director of Education and Social Services of the commission, Mrs Lala Olufunmike Foluso, said the exercise forms part of the state government’s efforts to strengthen the local government workforce through regular career progression and improved staff welfare.
According to the statement, the beneficiaries comprise 288 officers in the Administration and General Services Department, 57 in Agriculture and Natural Resources, 40 in Budget, Planning, Research and Statistics, 431 in Education and Social Services, 44 in Environmental Health Services, 315 in Finance and Supplies, and 360 in Works, Housing, Lands and Survey.
Presenting the promotion letters on behalf of the commission, its Chairman, Bashorun Akinwale Akinwole, described the exercise as another demonstration of Governor Seyi Makinde’s commitment to the welfare, motivation and career advancement of workers in the local government system.
He said the promotion exercise underscores the administration’s resolve to build a professional, efficient and highly motivated workforce capable of delivering quality services to residents at the grassroots.
“The promotion is a clear demonstration of the present administration’s commitment to building a professional, efficient and well-motivated local government workforce capable of delivering quality service to the people at the grassroots,” Akinwole said.
He noted that Makinde’s administration recognises the critical role of public servants in implementing government policies and programmes, stressing that creating opportunities for career growth remains a key component of good governance.
According to him, “This administration under the leadership of Governor Seyi Makinde understands that a motivated workforce is the engine room of good governance. The prompt release of these promotion letters is in line with his resolve to ensure that no civil servant is stagnated and that hard work is duly recognised and rewarded.”
The chairman further stated that the exercise was designed not only to reward diligence and commitment but also to encourage greater productivity and professionalism across the local government service.
Congratulating the beneficiaries, Akinwole urged them to see their elevation as a call to greater dedication, accountability and selfless service to the people.
He said: “See the promotion as both a reward for past diligence and a call to greater responsibility in service delivery across all the local governments and the Commission.”
He charged the officers to justify the confidence reposed in them by demonstrating integrity, efficiency and innovation in the discharge of their responsibilities, adding that the quality of governance at the grassroots depends largely on the commitment and performance of the workforce.
Akinwole also reiterated the commission’s commitment to sustaining regular and timely promotion exercises, strengthening capacity-building programmes and improving welfare packages for staff in line with the Omituntun 2.0 agenda of the Makinde administration.
He assured workers that the commission would continue to implement policies that enhance productivity, boost staff morale and improve service delivery across the state’s local government system.
