Oyo abduction: Islamic cleric hails Tinubu, Makinde over rescue of students, teachers

An Islamic cleric and the first Muqaddamul Wai’zeen of Oyo State, Fadeelatus-Sheikh Abdul-Mu’min Shehu Usman, has applauded President Bola Ahmed, Governor Seyi Makinde, Soun of Ogbomoso, Oba Afolabi Olaoye, security agencies and other stakeholders who facilitated the rescue of the students and teachers kidnapped recently in the State.

Usman gave this commendation in a statement made available to journalists on Sunday.

The teachers and students were abducted on Friday, 15th May 2026, in some communities in Oriire Local Government Area.

The victims were rescued by a combined team of security agencies on Friday.

Usman in the statement, explained that the rescue has shown the power of unity among Nigerians.

He commended Tinubu, Makinde, Olaoye and other individuals and groups for their efforts in the rescue operation.

He said that as the office charged the coordination of Islamic preaches in the, his office will continue to pray for lasting peace in Oyo and the world in general.

“On behalf of the office of the first Muqaddamul Wai’zeen of Oyo State, under the leadership of Fadeelatus Sheikh Alhaji Abdul-Mu’min Shehu Usman, we extend our heartfelt gratitude to Almighty Allah and our sincere commendation to you all for the successful rescue of the abducted principal, teachers and pupils in Oríiré local government.

“This joyous outcome reflects the power of unity, swift action, and sincere prayers. We particularly commend:

“The Federal and Oyo State Governments: for your prompt intervention, commitment to security, and for prioritizing the safety of our children and educators.

“His Imperial Majesty, Ọba Ghandi Afolabi Olaoye Orumogege III, Soun of Ògbómọ̀sọ́ Land and all other Obas in Ògbómọ̀sọ́ Zone for your fatherly leadership, prayers, and for rallying the community in support during this trying period.

“Security agencies for your bravery, professionalism, and sacrifice in securing the release of the victims unharmed. Your efforts will not be forgotten.
