Six members of the same family lost their lives when a building collapsed in the Nenwenta community of Awgu Local Government Area, Enugu State, after torrential rainfall triggered landslides in the area.
Residents said the victims — a man, his wife, their three children and the children’s grandmother — were crushed when a head tank gave way and fell onto the house. Only a four-year-old child survived; the youngster was later rescued and taken to hospital.
The tragedy struck on 18 September 2026. The same landslide that caused the collapse also severed road access to Nenwenta and the neighbouring Ugwueme community, isolating residents from the rest of Enugu State and delaying emergency responders.
