One injured, five rescued as two-storey building collapses in Lagos

A two-storey building collapsed on Wednesday evening at Modupeola Street, near Mangoro Bus Stop in the Alimosho area of Lagos, leaving one person injured and five others rescued.

The incident occurred around 6:00 p.m., trapping a 44-year-old man who sustained multiple fractures and bruises.

He was promptly rescued by emergency personnel and transported by the Lagos State Ambulance Service (LASAMBUS) to the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital (LASUTH), where he is receiving treatment in stable condition.

Lagos State Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Mr. Gbenga Omotoso, confirmed that five other victims were rescued from the rubble and taken to a nearby private hospital for care.

“LASEMA and other first responders arrived at the scene swiftly, rescuing the trapped victim and five others,” Omotoso said, adding that investigations are underway to determine the cause of the collapse.

Footage circulating on social media shows Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) officials actively engaged in rescue efforts at the scene.

This latest incident adds to a troubling trend of building collapses in Lagos.

In recent months, similar incidents in Ikorodu and Isale Eko have raised concerns about structural integrity and regulatory enforcement across the city.
