Nigeria’s ICT Sector Grows 6.61% in Q2 2025, Contributes 11.18% to Real GDP

Nigeria’s Information and Communication Technology (ICT) sector expanded by 6.61% in real terms year-on-year in the second quarter (Q2) of 2025.

The National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) data shows the sector’s growth rate was 2.23 percentage points higher than the 4.38% recorded in Q2 2024, while quarter-on-quarter, the sector advanced by 9.58% in real terms.

In nominal terms, ICT recorded growth of 21.39% year-on-year, a sharp rise from 10.21% in Q2 2024, though lower than the preceding quarter’s 31.64%. Quarter-on-quarter nominal growth stood at 4.05%.

The sector’s contribution to Nigeria’s GDP remained strong. In nominal terms, ICT accounted for 10.00% of total GDP in Q2 2025, compared with 9.82% in the same quarter of 2024 and 10.29% in Q1 2025.

In real terms, the sector contributed 11.18% of total GDP, higher than the 10.93% recorded in Q2 2024 and the 10.59% in Q1 2025.

The ICT sector is composed of four key activities: Telecommunications and Information Services; Publishing; Motion Picture, Sound Recording and Music Production; and Broadcasting.

The data highlights the sector’s resilience and growing importance in Nigeria’s economy, particularly as it continues to deliver consistent double-digit contributions to GDP and attract investment in digital infrastructure, telecoms, and content creation.
