Nigeria’s $700 million Obiafu-Obrikom-Oben (OB3) gas pipeline has commenced commercial gas deliveries from the ANOH processing plant.
The pipeline accounted for approximately 10% of gas sales from the ANOH facility during the third quarter of 2026, despite becoming operational for commercial deliveries only in the final month of the reporting period.
The development was disclosed in Seplat Energy’s latest financial results, which showed that the ANOH gas processing plant averaged 164 million standard cubic feet of gross daily production during the quarter.
The commencement of deliveries provides an additional transportation route for processed natural gas, strengthening the infrastructure connecting gas-producing regions with major consumption centres.
The OB3 pipeline forms part of Nigeria’s strategic gas infrastructure network and is designed to improve the movement of natural gas from production facilities in the eastern Niger Delta towards markets in other parts of the country.
Its commercial operation is particularly significant for the ANOH project, which was developed to increase domestic gas processing capacity and support Nigeria’s growing demand for natural gas.
The facility is operated by ANOH Gas Processing Company, a joint venture between Seplat Energy and the Nigerian Gas Infrastructure Company, a subsidiary of NNPC Limited.
With a processing capacity of 300 million standard cubic feet per day, the plant is positioned to supply natural gas to electricity generators, manufacturers and other industrial users.
The latest production figures indicate that ANOH is already contributing to domestic gas supply, although actual output remains below its installed processing capacity.
Implications for Nigeria’s Industrial Gas Supply
Nigeria possesses substantial natural gas reserves, but inadequate transportation infrastructure has historically limited the movement of gas from producing fields to domestic consumers.
These constraints have affected electricity generation, manufacturing operations and industrial businesses that require consistent fuel supplies.
The OB3 pipeline is expected to address part of this challenge by providing additional capacity to transport processed gas to domestic markets.
Improved gas availability could support industries seeking to reduce their dependence on diesel and other more expensive fuels.
The development could also strengthen electricity generation by improving access to natural gas for power plants connected to the domestic supply network.
However, the availability of additional pipeline capacity does not automatically guarantee improved electricity supply, as generation, transmission, distribution and payment constraints remain important factors.
For Seplat Energy, the new transportation route provides an opportunity to increase gas deliveries from ANOH as production and commercial demand expand.
The pipeline could also improve the commercial viability of future gas developments by strengthening access to domestic customers.
The commencement of commercial deliveries represents progress in Nigeria’s efforts to develop gas infrastructure and increase the contribution of natural gas to industrial activity.
Nevertheless, the economic benefits will depend on sustained pipeline operations, higher gas throughput and the ability of domestic consumers to access reliable supplies.
For investors, the next important indicators will be the volume of gas transported through OB3, the pace of ANOH’s production growth and the extent to which additional deliveries translate into stronger revenue and industrial gas availability.
