A fresh case of COVID-19 has been recorded in Cross River State, Nigeria, involving a Chinese national who works with Lafarge and recently flew into the country.
The state Commissioner for Health, Dr Henry Ayuk, confirmed the development, explaining that the patient arrived in Nigeria on March 17 before falling ill and was later taken to medical facilities for treatment.
“We are, however, happy to report that he is doing well.”
According to him, the patient’s condition worsened at a medical facility before he was moved to the University of Calabar Teaching Hospital (UCTH), where samples were taken and COVID-19 protocols were followed, confirming the infection.
Dr Ayuk added that the health ministry had been strengthened to handle outbreaks, stressing that surveillance and containment systems are in place to prevent panic in the state.
He also noted that the 53-year-old patient, who works in Akamkpa Local Government Area, is being managed according to standard procedures.
He assured residents that there is no cause for alarm, as the state is fully prepared to manage any disease outbreak and ensure public safety.
