The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has announced significant improvements in network performance across the country, following the release of its Q4 2025 Network Performance Reports.
Speaking on the development, the Executive Vice Chairman of the Commission, Dr. Aminu Maida, said the reports reflected the regulator’s commitment to transparency and better service delivery.
“Today’s engagement reflects our commitment to transparent, data-driven regulation and the continuous improvement of Nigeria’s digital ecosystem,” Maida stated.
According to him, the reports, compiled in collaboration with Ookla, provide independent insights into real-life network experiences across cities, rural areas, highways, and emerging 5G zones.
He explained that the data showed “clear and steady improvements in network quality, particularly in median download speeds across both urban and rural areas.”
Maida added that the video Quality of Experience gap between urban and rural communities had narrowed, while the nation’s 4G infrastructure continued to improve.
However, he admitted that challenges remained, especially in 5G deployment and upload speed disparities.
“The industry is not without challenges, but we are actively engaging operators to close gaps in mobile service coverage,” he said.
The NCC boss disclosed that over $1 billion was invested in the telecoms sector in 2025, leading to the deployment of more than 2,850 new sites nationwide.
He further revealed that operators had committed to surpassing their 2025 investment levels in 2026.
“We look forward to translating these insights into better connectivity and a more inclusive digital future for all Nigerians,” Maida said.
