The State Commander, National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Kaduna State Command, CN Maijama’a Muhammad, has called for stronger collaboration and increased support from the Kaduna State Government in the fight against illicit drug trafficking and substance abuse in the State.
The Commander made the call on Tuesday, September 1, 2026, when he paid a courtesy visit to the Commissioner, Ministry of Internal Security and Home Affairs, Dr. Sule Shuaibu (SAN), in Kaduna.
CN Maijama’a said the visit was part of his stakeholder engagements following his assumption of duty, aimed at strengthening existing partnerships with the State Government and other relevant stakeholders.
He appreciated the Commissioner and the Kaduna State Government for their continued support to NDLEA and other security agencies, stressing that the fight against illicit drugs requires a coordinated effort involving government, security agencies, religious leaders,traditional institutions and communities.
The Commander noted that drug abuse remains a major threat to public safety and the future of young people, particularly those within 18–35 age bracket, with Cannabis sativa among the commonly abused substances. He also disclosed that most illicit drugs intercepted in Kaduna are been smuggled from other States, making intelligence sharing, route monitoring and sustained joint operations essential.
He further briefed the Commissioner on the Command’s ongoing intelligence-led operations, including the deployment of personnel along major routes and strategic locations, stop-and-search operations and other measures aimed at disrupting the movement and distribution of illicit drugs.
He also highlighted the Command’s major achievements since his assumption of duty, particularly in arrests and seizures, convictions, counselling, treatment and rehabilitation, integrity drug testing , among other initiatives.
In his respond, Dr. Sule Shuaibu (SAN) expressed happiness to receive the NDLEA Commander and his delegation .
The Commissioner lauded the NDLEA Kaduna Command for its excellent performance in the fight against illicit drugs and substance abuse. He recalled witnessing the public destruction of seized illicit drug exhibits by the Command in Zaria last year November 2025, describing the exercise as a demonstration of the Agency’s seriousness and commitment to combating the drug menace.
He also commended CN Maijama’a Muhammad and the officers and men of the Command for their visibility, dedication and professionalism, noting that NDLEA personnel are consistently seen carrying out operations on major roads.
Dr. Sule particularly praised the State Government Joint Task Operations, involving the NDLEA and other security agencies, describing the collaboration as commendable and essential to addressing the security challenges in Kaduna State.
He assured the Commander of the continued support and cooperation of the Kaduna State Government and urged the NDLEA to engage the Ministry whenever assistance or intervention is required. He also pledged to convey the Agency’s appreciation to His Excellency, Senator Uba Sani, CON, Executive Governor of Kaduna State, for his support to security agencies.
The visit ended with both parties reaffirming their commitment to stronger collaboration, intelligence sharing and coordinated operations to tackle illicit drug trafficking, substance abuse and other activities threatening the peace and security of Kaduna State.
